ARCHER - MARINE
Hi, Welcome to Archer-Marine, This Website has been set up to allow my wife and I to offer the cruising community the opportunity to buy products that we as Fulltime Cruisers have found to be worthy of consideration After 20yrs Commercial Fishing my wife and I retired and went sailing on our Nauticat 44, one of the things Ive come to realise after going through numerous PC's and Laptops is that they dont handle the marine enviroment too well, probably there major shortcoming is that they use a FAN for cooling, which sucks moist dust and salt laden air into your PC and starts the countdown clock to Failure. The other main problem these days is the lack of RS232 (9 pin) serial ports, most new laptops dont even have them as everything is USB these days except Marine peripherals, we personally use four RS232 ports (Plotter, Sat C, AIS Receiver, Satphone Data), so you end up spending $50 bucks for a USB/Serial converter only to find it doesnt work or conflicts with other ones. About three years ago I located a Fanless 12VDC computer and having driven it hard since Its never missed a beat, I realise after talking to other cruisers there is a need for a PC like this. So after consulting with manufacturer and getting a few modifications made namely 4 x RS232 ports installed and power supply able to handle 10-16V with delayed start and autoshutdown for wiring into Key ignition circuit if wanted (great for car bus installation). Also most of the componentry is readily available and unit easily dissassembles if you ever need to service it (Try getting a laptop repaired in some third world country). We use a LCD TV / Monitor and a remote Keyboard mouse which allows us to mount unit well away from harm. I am able to offer these units at a reasonable price, You may be able to do it cheaper but I bet it wont last as long. Feel free to email me for Full Spec's, Pricing, and Delivery Times Also we recently fitted an AIS Receiver running through Shipplotter software to our Yacht and what a difference to our safety and watchkeeping on passages its made, All commercial shipping these days above 350GRT transmits an AIS (automatic identification signal) and with one of these low cost units you are able to receive this signal and display information through software like Shipplotter (see link) or directly through your Navigation software if compatible. It's great you get the vessels name, MMSI number, course, speed, last port, next port and more and you can plot it all relevant to your position. Because I like it so much I've also scourced these at a reasonable price and can also offer a VHF antenna splitter to allow you to use your existing VHF antenna or you can for about the same price install a seperate antenna for the unit. Have a look at the Products page and if your interested I'll email you spec's and prices As we find more products that are worthy our product line may grow so please come back now and then Contact Us At:
